J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone

Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone

Joanne K. Rowling grew up in England and lives in Edinburgh. She was a struggling single mother when she started the first Harry Potter book. Since then, the Harry Potter series has become an international phenomenon. The books have been translated into many languages and are read by children and adults alike all around the world.

In Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone (Philosopher's Stone in the British version), young Harry Potter lives in the cupboard under the stairs in his awful aunt and uncle Dursley's house. He wasn't allowed to have fun and the Dursleys made sure of that. On his eleventh birthday, his entire life changed when he was told that he had been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Poor, neglected Harry Potter was a wizard, and not just any wizard, but the wizard who drove You-Know-Who out of power when he was just a tiny baby! He was the Boy Who Lived! This book follows Harry through the adventures of his first year at Hogwarts.

Cat is totally a Hard Core Harry Potter fan. At first, she was a bit suspicious of all the hype, but once she started the first book, she was hooked. And she had to wait for the books to get through both her brother and her mom before it was her turn to read them. She rereads the books whenever she needs a break from the Muggle world and her homework. She recently ordered the first three in German and plans to read them over the summer to keep up on her German for her class next year.
