Design Document

This page is to give you a little insight into how I built this site and fufilled the requirements given to me by my prof.

Style Sheets: I used a style sheet to give the pages the same basic design in terms of color and paragraph alignment. I also used the same one to create it so whatever inner page you are on is noted on the navigation bar. I used style sheets within the Quotes page in order to make the paragraphs and lists within the quotes appear differnt than the other text. I also used it to format the topic headings, both on that page and on the Links page.

Navigation aids: I decided to make the navigation aids out of tables. These are placed at the bottom of every interior page. The page that the user is on is not a link, but is a different color, thanks to the "span" tag and use of the style sheet.

Hidden tables: I used a hidden table to make two columns of information on the main page. The first column has links to the interior pages and the second column has a short desciption of what the user can find on the page. There is actually a third column inbetween the two with data to add space between the two columns. I used the same trick on the My Experiences page in order to make it so that only certain portions of the text would go with a specific picture

Javascript: I used javascript on the Quotes page to make a pull down menu that jumped to the name of the person the user selected. I have to thank Sandra Richards a million and twelve times for sending me the javascript to make this work (after a discussion about it on ICQ). She r0x0r muchly!

Images: I used Photoshop to make the image of the rows of dice that appear on the What Is page and the My experiences page. I feel that I really wanted a very simple looking page, so I only used images in a few places. I used the dice images as a divider of certain portions of the text. Also, on the My experiences page I tried to add some images that went with what I was talking about on that portion of the text. It helped to break up a very text heavy page. I also added linked images of logos for some RPG companies.

Links: I used internal links on the main page and the navigation bar to aid the user in getting around the site. I used absolute links on the links page so that the user can get more information on stuff mentioned on the page and also on the quotes page I used a "mailto" link for people who didn't mind having their e-mail address up so users could contact them.
